Re: 1980's Targa info? (18 views)
Message: I have owned my 86 Targa for about 8.5 years and have really enjoyed the hell out of the car. I live in FL so the top is rarely on. If it is raining I wont usually take that car. The targa top itself works pretty well but as you alluded to many will leak a bit in the rain and you also get a little wind noise if at highway speeds.

Although I like both the Cabs and Targas ( I owned a 96 911/993 cab as well) I prefer the rear defrosted glass, rigidity and safety of having the built in roll bar of the targa. And depending on how much you use it and how you care for it the Targa top is easier to care for and cheaper to replace or repair when necessary. In addition it is more difficult for some scum bag to get into and steal the car or some other valuable with the top on. Unfortunately I have seen some Cabs shredded with a box cutter or something else!

IMHO the 86-89 with the 3.2 motor are some of the best Porsches built. Very reliable, great performance and a surprising amount of features available. The 87-89 has a better clutch and tranny but the 86 works just fine as well. Good luck in your search!
