My 85 Euro with the old radiator out of my 84, a mechanical clutch fan and 50/50 dexcool goes up to just a hair over the bottom mark and never moves up enough to notice under any conditions.

Some things that make cars overheat ...

Blown head gasket.
Running lean.
Failing water pump, impeller stops spinning, sometimes falls off.
Obstruction in coolant path.
Maybe thrust bearing failure

No idea on the bubbles as to what or why, just something I have heard.
